As someone who was once prolific and now barely writes things, I think you have to divorce people paying attention to your writing with motivating myself to write and that makes it easier. One of the easiest ways, I find, is writing things that have nothing to do with work. Writing for fun or about other things I care about, is a way to get me into the habit of writing (like this comment) and also having a semi-safe place to write.

Tumblr used to be great for that, because there was a built-in community, it didn’t matter if I used my real name and could tinker in different ways with different themes if I felt like it.

Starting small can help — just writing a regular thing every day — but also, think about why you want to write? Do you want to do it for the sake it? Do you want to write to level up? To share what you’re learning? Or to discuss your favorite anime or whatever? Once you’ve established that, you can have a plan about what you’ll document regularly.

Even as I write this, I struggle with this topic mightily but…I think the key is to just start writing.
